About The Surf Shack Bar, Grill & Hostel

Situated on the southern peninsula of Taiwan in the small town of Hengchun, The Surf Shack is central to many of the surf beaches and tourist sites. We are approx. 10km north of the tourist town of Kenting. Kenting National Park encompasses much of the peninsula and was the first designated park in Taiwan in 1984. It’s a beautiful area that has been protected to preserve the unique tropical flora, fauna and marine environment.

The Surf Shack first opened it’s doors in the summer of 2006. The owners, Terry, an expat Canadian and Ee, a local Taiwanese from Hengchun really enjoy living in this beautiful part of Taiwan and are keen to show other surfers, divers and travelers it’s great waves, magnificent coastline and good times at The Surf Shack.

Our restaurant serves mainly western style food which includes; burgers, burritos, quesadillas, sandwiches, wraps, spaghetti, soups, salads, desserts as well as a fully stocked bar. Ee, our in house cook, has been praised by many customers for cooking some of the best western style food they’ve had in Taiwan. We also have a BBQ area for parties where we can cook up some of the local fresh fish.

Our hostel has five private rooms and two shared bathrooms. Three rooms are air conditioned with televisions and the other two are basic rooms with ceiling fans. There is a large balcony on the third floor with a mountain view which is a nice place to relax or read a book.
